Tinsel vs. the Pink Elephant

I'll admit it, the Holiday season approaching has me in a new frame of mind this year. It's been so long since my family has had small children around over the holidays, this year is about to change thanks to the arrival of Adelaide.

No, I'm not going to go nuts with presents, after all, she'll barely be 6 months old during the holidays, and won't remember it; however, I do plan to decorate a little bit more that usual, and our 3 1/2 foot tree may be tossed and a 5-6 footer purchased.

I'm not one for the metallic ball look, or tinsel, I much prefer handmade ornaments. I have quite a large collection of ornaments over at my mom's house, which I just may have to pick through a little bit to bring home with me to start our own tree.

A very close family friend (Hi Connie!) gave me my very first Christmas ornament when I was only 4 months old, and yes, I still have it. Would you believe it's a pink elephant? Made out of Styrofoam, and pepto bismol pink paint. It's almost destroyed, but I don't care. It still goes on my mom's tree, year after year, in the most prominent spot. Smack in the middle, front and centre.

Christmas decorations should mean something, or tell a story, don't you think? As we have virtually NO decorations for our tree this year, I'm starting to shop around for some unique tree decorations. Here is a small collection of some I've already found online. I also hope to pick some up at the One of A Kind Craft show coming up in a few weeks, it's going to be a madhouse!

Unique Gift Idea's: Three Potato Four & The Curiosity Shoppe

I hate to say it, but Christmas is quickly approaching! I've already got my eye out there looking for gifts, both online and in stores.

I thought I'd share with everyone out there my favorite sites for that gift for the person that has everything during these few weeks up until the holiday season hits us all smack in the face. It's tough to find that special something for the people we love, hopefully this will help you all out!

Happy Shopping!!!

~

Three Potato Four is a shop born out of the love of collecting. Have a friend who is an avid photographer? Why not start them on a collection of vintage film canisters? Three Potato Four's collections are original, and sure NOT to be found anywhere else. Here are a few of my favorites.....

The Curiosity Shoppe I stumbled upon purely by accident via another design blog, I believe it was Poppytalk while searching for 2009 calenders. Yet another shop created out of the love of collecting and being around beautiful things, their wares are truly different. They have also just released a book entitles, Show Me How, which should be on every DIY's Christmas list this year.

Pumpkin Whimsy

Halloween is almost here, and we all know what that means, a sticky oozy gooey slimy pumpkin mess on all our kitchen counters.

Personally, by the time I've cleaned out the pumpkin, I'm too exhausted to carve it. Best to have more that one person on hand, the more the merrier, as they you may just have enough energy to create one, or more of the masterpieces that I found today from Martha Stewart, Hallmark Magazine, and Country Living Magazine. Happy carving, and be careful not to cut yourself!
