fabulous fabulous

It's been a bit chilly the past two days. I may have to break out my teapot. But only if I have this mug cozy. I don't think I could enjoy another hot beverage unless I have one of these.

succulents {winsome hollow}

Plants and I have a love/hate relationship. I love plants. They die on me. Or I kill them. Not a good thing for either party.

Hence the reason for this and why I'm about to order 10 of these.

papercuts

I had no idea this craft was referred to as quilling until today when I happened upon Ann Martin's blog last night.

This is such a delicate artform, I can imagine she is loyal customer of band-aid brand.

channelling my inner granny

I'm TERRIFIED to try quilting. Although this tutorial to make mini-quilts over at The Etsy's Storque blog makes it look not so intimidating.

Granny Squares

Did you have a handmade granny square blanket as a child? I did. Actually I still have it. It's red and white, and my mom crocheted it while she was pregnant with me. My daughter now has it, along with a new one her great-grandmother made for her, which is also red and white. No, I'm not sure where my fascination with red and white is coming from, besides the fact that I'm Canadian.

Any-who, I've always wanted to learn how to crochet, and now that I have a daughter of my own, I thought it was time I learned how. What I didn't expect however, is how difficult it has been not only to start this HUGE project, but that I honestly can't decide on a colour scheme.

I've pulled together some blankets that I've sourced online that I like, and also this amazing tutorial on how to make it.

Does anyone have a favorite shop to buy their yarn? I just found KnitPicks, but not sure what their pricing is like comparable to my local craft centre. I find when I'm in my local shop however, I get so overwhelmed by all the types, that I end up walking out with nothing.

Now to decide on a colour scheme...hmmm.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me on types of wool to use, or a colour scheme? I could use the advice, as I know I won't be able to make a decision, then I'll procrastinate until I'm 40. :-) Help!

Queen West Art Crawl 2008

I'm going this year, I promise!!! What started as a one-day festival back in 2003, has evolved 5 years later into a 3 day weekend of art, craft, and entertainment.

They will be kicking off the festival this year with their opening ceremonies at the Gladstone Hotel on the 12th of September. The Gladstone will be featuring an exhibition of artists from 401 Richmond on their 2nd floor.

I can't wait to visit their outdoor art show at Trinity Bellwoods Park, in which I will be in true eye-candy heaven grazing with over 230 buskers, artist's and crafts people, performance artists, and food stands. Sounds absolutely delicious.

Have a peek at more, here.

Supermarket & Elsewares = Indie LOVE for home decor and design

I think I've been hiding under a rock for the past 4 year's as I've only just today discovered 2 very cool e-commerce sites for creative types. Elsewares, and Supermarket, both based out of Brooklyn, NY.

I chatted with the President & Founder Ryan Duessing today over email today about their sister site Supermarket, geared towards creative designers as well, however the difference being that the designer's can personally upload their products and information on to this slick marketplace. Either place is an awesome stop for gifts, if anyone asks, my birthday's next month, and I have to have the Lumen Oil Lamp.

Trend Tuesday: Blackboard Paint

Blackboard paint has been around forever, but it's only recently that it's been gaining HUGE popularity in interior design. People are painting entire room's with the stuff, with absolutely beautiful results. It's not just sticking to walls either, but also inspiring designer's to create coaster's, pencil cases (see below) and so much more.

For those in Canada, there is TV program on HGTV Canada called The Style Dept. with the Design Editor of Wish Magazine; she painting an oversize armoire with blackboard paint and the results were absolutely stunning!!!!! I've been searching high and low for a photo, but can't find one anywhere online. If anyone has it, or knows where to find it let me know!!!

TGIF & Toronto Craft Alert

Happy Friday everyone!

It's been a crazy week, and I have to admit i'm looking forward to the weekend.

I found this blog yesterday while sourcing out some art/craft show's in the Toronto area, the Toronto Craft Alert (see below). Again, it's sooo important to support our local independant artisan's and retailer's.

It's AMAZING !!! Everyone must visit, it is an absolute gem created by Jen Anisef.

The intent of the TSA is to build community among local crafters and artisans, and the people interesting in craft events. There is SO much to see at TSA, you must all have a peek!

If you have a blog of interest suiting the content of DecorAddict, please email me at decoraddict@gmail.com .

from coasters to napkins, with Avril Loreti

I was on the hunt for coaster's a few week's ago, which I finally found at Pier 1. However in my search for cool stuff, I stumbled across a fabulous designer, Avril Loreti. I pictured some of her work in my original coaster search, however in the new Poppytalk Handmade marketplace this month, she also designs napkins!!!! And very cool one's I may add. You can buy them here this month.

attempting to crochet

I just discovered a new blog today, "A Whole Load of Craft" at thekidneybean.wordpress.com . The writer, Laura Lynn Hanks blogs about all things crochet, and even knitting, embroidery, and paper model's.

Very cool stuff, and I fully intend on possibly even heading out to Michael's today to pick up some yarn to start my own blanket. The one on sofa right now bugs me.

I think everyone should learn to knit and/or crochet....I've always found it to be a fantastic stress reliever, not to mention you can make some absolutely gorgeous things for your home.

Surf & Shop: in search of coasters

It's Friday today, i've worked all week long, i'm tired, and just really want to go home and relax, maybe have a nice cold drink, and hang out with my hubby and just relax.

After I've walked in the door, said hello to Paul with a kiss, I proceed to make myself a big tall glass of ice tea, and take a seat on the sofa. As I do this, I reach for a piece of junk mail to place my glass on, as I know the condensation from the glass with create a ring on our coffee table...a coffee table I may add took a year to find, and I will never give up.

I"M using a piece of junk mail as a coaster? Hmmm. I see a major problem here, and it bugs me. Firstly, that i've let the mail pile up this week that there is still junk mail on the coffee table to begin with, secondly because I can't believe i've never thought of purchasing coaster's. My mom has had the same coaster set for at least 10 years, round pieces of glass, frames in tin, much like a stained glass piece, not really my style. I want something, different, quirky, a conversation starter.....and so my search begins, starting with Etsy.
