The Repurposed Doily

I'm seeing them more and more lately, that's right my friends, doilies are making a comeback. And, even better, they're not your grandmothers doilies either.

Re purposed into beautiful works of art, they have been making the rounds as lampshades, and on pillows. Gotta love that, right?

There is so much you can do with these little pieces of art that our grandmothers and great aunts made over the years, besides using them as a coaster or as a designated spot for that candy dish.

The doily "motif" per-se is popping up everywhere it seems. Upholstery, stencils, you name it, it's there!

What do yo think of this reinvented, or re purposed look? I think I'm liking it. Don't you?

Love This! {pastel masking tape}

I MUST have this. Pure genius. Beautiful. Pretty. Love this! The Japanese are brilliant!

See the full details here, or you can get them via DWR as well.

There is soooo much you could do with this!!! I can't even begin to imagine the possibilities. Masking tape just doesn't have to be for taping your trip before you paint, you can use this in so many of your craft projects. Collages, scrapbooking, OMG this is the best thing since I discovered my craft punch that rounds corners.

Yes, I'm losing it obsiously.

Thank you to the kazillion other blogs that have already posted this...I had to share this as well!!!

I'm Back!!! NEW Surface Collective

I'm officially back from Colorado! What a great state in the grand US of A!!! Although the altitude unexpectedly bothered me, overall it was a great trip! Fresh air, beautiful rocky mountains, not to mention fabulous shopping! I have a few pictures I'll share with you later in the week.

I spent most of yesterday going through a gazillion emails, making this weeks to-do list, not to mention catching up on laundry, I'm so sorry for the wait everybody! While I was gone, a whole whack load of new exciting things filled up my inbox, the most exciting for me being Surface Collective, remember I talked about them here a few months ago? Well they've just released some new wall decal designs, and they are better than ever! Kudos to my fellow Canadians!

Surface Collective has also reduced their prices on their most popular designs, they've introduced 4 new designers, and will be releasing laptop skins! Yay Surface Collective!

Has anyone tried out these wall decals? I'm seriously considering some for our new apartment that we're moving into next month. Wow. We're only a month away from our move already. Here are a few that I'm considering for our combined living/dining room.

NEW Flickr Group, DecorAddict's YOUR house

DecorAddict has just opened a new Flickr group, you can visit and join the group here.

The purpose of this new group is to encourage all to upload and share their own personal spaces, whether it be your home, office, or even your backyard, we want to see it! Some of the best design ideas are not always found in decorating magazines, but through word of mouth, in this case by sharing photos with each other.

Happy uploading, and happy friday! I'll be back at the start of the week with lots more for everyone.

A Love Affair With Morocco

My love for Morocco began back in college, while researching my grad-project. My assignment was to research and plan in full, a customized group tour of a country of my choice. I'm not sure why, but I chose Morocco.

My research led me into back alleyways full of hand dyed fabric drying in the sun, to spice markets, and sand dunes as far as the eye can see.

Moroccan decor is THE current trend right now, it's showing up everywhere from interior design blogs (like this one), and National design mags everywhere. As it should be.

There are numerous Moroccan decor shops opening on the web, due the huge increase in popularity, here are some of the shops that tempt me, I love them all!

Another excellent shop for Moroccan, and other "ethnic" interiors is Overstock's Worldstock Market, hundred's and hundred's of affordable home goods and accessories from all of the world. Thank goodness they are finally shipping to Canada !

i heart ..... Anna James

I was browsing through the website of Spanish design magazine, Espacio Living today, and stumbled upon this absolutely bizarre, wonderful, whimsical armoire.

As I read further, I found out the designer is UK's own Anna James, who works out of her studio in south-east London. Each piece she creates is fully restored, prior to being hand painted. Here are a few more of my own personal favorites of her work. Absolutely stunning, don't you think?

Trend Tuesday: picked from a hat

There is so much that I want to share with everyone this Tuesday, so much that I don't think I can fit everything in one post. So, I've put all my trend idea's into a hat, and I've picked out 2 of them. The rest will have to wait until next week, the week after that and the week after that.

I used to play with Ukrainian nesting dolls when I was a child, they were everywhere, since after all, that is my heritage. I can remember creating little villages of wooden people, the large dolls were the parents, and the little ones were always the children. The image of the nesting doll has made it's way into home decor, and even fashion. Here's a peek of a few things I found on Etsy, Ebay, and even Anthropologie today.

from top left, throw pillow, usd$18; Juicy Couture charm from Nordstrom, usd$149.99; throw pillow, usd$35; Vintage Ukranian nesting dolls, Ebay, usd$10.99 (current bid)

from top left, all on Etsy, coffee sleeve, usd$5.50; block print, usd$35; fabric, usd$6.99 per yard; change purse, usd$6.50

These nesting dolls are becoming more and more "trendy", stick with the vintage originals for the best look.

I was visiting Anthropologie the other day, as I do most day's, noticing that they have put a bird motif of one kind or another on practically everything. It's very whimsical, and very vintagey, but I'm not sure I like it. I've never been much of a bird fan, but for those that like bird's, and even Victorian decor fans alike, this is definately the place for you this fall & winter. I've thrown together a few pieces from Anthropologie that I do like, not all together mind you, but used sparingly, I would enjoy these pieces very much.

Pantone Fall 2008 Colour Trend Report

I've been meaning to post this for awhile, but I've had Lot's more to ramble about lately...so, now that I need to cut back on the length of my posts for a few days, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to share Pantone's Fall 2008 colour forecast for fashion, which will ultimately translate into decor item's as well.

My personal favorite's are all the blue's and green's, with a little bit of purple thrown in for some SPLASH! I do promise to showcase some of my favorite room's showcasing these amazing colour's shortly, when I'm not covered in a535.

I'm not a big fan of the orange, but used in the right context, this would make a fantastic accent colour.

Pantone also just released their Spring '09 colour forecast, fellow blogger EyeSpy blogged about this already, she did a fantastic job, make sure you check her post, part 1 here, and part 2 here

Enjoy!
